Being on Phase 3 of the HCG Diet means sticking to a low-carb diet. Most of the carbs I eat come from fruit. There are occasions where I slip up and have a piece of bread, or maybe some crackers with some soup. Unfortunately, even just a few bites of these things can show up on the scale the next day.

A friend of mine introduced me to the idea of Carb Blockers. Naturally I was intrigued. Could there really be a pill out there that allows me to eat carbs without any weight gain? I had to try it.

Meet the Product:

I tried Carb Blocker from Creations Garden

The basic science behind the Carb Blockers according to freedieting.com is this, "The premise of carb blockers is that they will prevent the enzyme alpha-amylase from binding with starches. This enzyme is produced in saliva and will break down the carbohydrates into molecules that the body will absorb. By preventing this process from happening, the carbohydrate will pass through the body."

So, what happened when I tried it? I took 2 with breakfast, 2 with lunch and forgot to take them with dinner. That day I had Greek yogurt with raspberries and Trulicious sweetener, spaghetti squash with chicken and sugar-free tomato sauce, a cheese stick, and then non-breaded BBQ wings. I ate relatively low-carb for breakfast and lunch, but I ordered the wings for dinner to give the supplement a test run. The product claims to pass carbs out of the body undigested. I wasnt quite sure what this entailed, but I was going to find out soon enough (read on with caution)...

Within an hour of eating the BBQ covered chicken my stomach began to cramp. It felt like I had eaten 3 week old Chinese food that had been sitting out in a hot car. After the cramps came the gas. The discomfort in my stomach was hard to ignore and I knew it was going to be a long night. Maybe this wouldnt have been as bad if I wasnt expecting company...As if the gas wasnt bad enough, then came the nearly uncontrollable need to use the restroom. Fortunately my restroom is equipped with an incredibly loud and efficient fan, so my quest was not aware of the situation. 3 uncomfortable visits to be bathroom later, the discomfort was back to gas. At about 3 a.m. the discomfort that started at 9 p.m. was gone. Apparently when this product says, "passes out of the body undigested," it really means, "gives you sudden and very painful diarrhea."

All that being said, I am giving this product another shot. The next morning when I stepped on the scale, I was down 1.2 pounds from the day before. In addition to the weight loss, by continuing to take these, I am less likely to eat carbs knowing how sick they make me. This hopefully will lead to less bread and crackers.

Have you tried a carb blocker? If so, did you find it effective?
